A Guide for Young People: What to Do With Your Life

By  Leo Babauta I had a 15-year-old write to me and ask about figuring out what do do with her life. She writes: ‘As a high-school student I’m constantly being reminded to figure out what to do with my life, what career I would like to have and so on. I definitely feel huge amounts of pressure when my teachers and parents tell me to figure out something now. I’m young and I don’t want to make a mistake and ruin my future. I know what I like and what my interests are but when I read about a job related to those interests I always feel as if I wouldn’t enjoy it and I don’t know why.’

How Creativity Works, & How to Do It

By Leo Babauta I’m continually trying to create new things, from new blog posts, to books and courses and novels, to new ventures. And as I create these things, I’ve been watching my creation process, hoping to learn about how it works. For most creators, I think it’s just this Black Box of Creativity, where cool things come out but it’s not clear what you need to put in, or what the hell happens inside the black box. It’s a mystery. Except it doesn’t have to be. Creativity is a powerful tool to help anyone, from the parent trying to find new things to inspire his kids, to the small businessperson looking for a new direction, to the writer or artist stuck or feeling uninspired. So in this post, I’ll briefly explain how creativity works (as I’ve observed it), and then share some tips on how to do it.

Cash-rich Infosys gifts higher dividend to investors

Bangalore, April 15 : With a whopping Rs.30,000 crore ($5 billion) in its reserves, cash-rich Infosys has decided to share a part of its wealth with its lucky investors by increasing its dividend to 40 percent of post-tax profits from 30 percent it was paying since inception in 1981. "As our reserves, including cash and cash equivalents crossed Rs.30,000 crore ($5 billion) for the full year (2013-14), the board has decided to increase the dividend payout ratio to 40 percent to our investors," Infosys chief financial officer Rajiv Bansal told IANS here Tuesday. The board's decision will be subject to approval of shareholders at its annual general meeting in June. Having paid an interim dividend of (400 percent) Rs.20 per share of Rs.5 face value for the first half (April-September) of fiscal 2014, the global software major has declared a final dividend Rs.43 per share (860 percent) for second half (October-March) of the just-concluded fiscal. Twitter Now Lets You Tag Photos And Create Tweet Albums

Twitter is  rolling out two new features  that focus squarely on photos. Users can now tag up to 10 people in one photo and share up to four photos in a single tweet. Tagging photos on Twitter works almost exactly as it does on Facebook. When you select a photo, you’re prompted to tap on “Who’s in this photo?” and then type and select the name of the person you want to tag. Users will receive notifications if they're tagged in a photo; however, if the person sharing the photo doesn't use the @-mention, the user’s name will appear next to the photo as it does on Facebook.  Photo tags that eliminate the @-mention could be a step towards Twitter eradicating the symbol from its network entirely, as  recent reports have speculated .  When you share a series of up to four photos, Twitter will automatically create an album embedded in the initial tweet so users can browse through all of the photos after tapping on the featured image. Shared photos won’t take up any letter r

You’re Not Worse Than Other People

Leo Babauta I was talking to a loved one yesterday about her fears, and several times made the comment, “Everyone has these fears. Everyone.” And this is true. The fears and problems you have are not unique to you. We all have them, usually secretly, oftentimes even hidden from ourselves. We think we’re alone in our fears, but we’re not. We all share them, a common thread that connects us as humans. We think we’re worse than others in our failures, but we’re not. Everyone has the same failures, everyone is ashamed of them, no one can avoid them. They are a part of who we as human beings. And not wanting these failures to be a part of us is also human. Everyone else has the same fears you have: fears of failure, of embarrassment, of uncertainty, of discomfort. Fear of not being good enough. Everyone else has the same failures you have: procrastination, selfishness, jealousy, insecurity, not being happy with ourselves, not being disciplined, being afraid and shyi
