31 Perfect Things

As we see more and more holiday gift guides, articles espousing the perfectness of glitzy products, I’d like to offer an alternative perspective. We don’t need to buy things to make our lives beautiful or joyous. We don’t need more glamorous items in our lives to find happiness and contentment. We can find these wonderful qualities in what’s already in front of us. Most moments, I forget this. In my best moments, I remember, and my heart expands with love for life and everyone around me. In my mind, these things are perfect, and are proof that we don’t need to buy anything to be happy, cool, excited, contented: A quiet morning. A walk outdoors. Reading one of those books sitting on your shelves. A cup of tea, drunk slowly. Family.

How to Deal with Frustration & Disappointment?

One of the most common things I see in people who write to me is something we all share: disappointment in ourselves. We all feel this, because we constantly fail to live up to our standards: We aren’t as disciplined as we’d like. We don’t stick to habits we’re trying to create. We aren’t as productive as we plan to be. We leave small personal tasks and large work tasks undone. We fail in exercising as much as we’d like, and eating as healthily as we want. We fail in being the best parent, partner, friend, as we think we should be. We should, we should, but we don’t. And that is frustrating and disappointing. We all feel it, so much of the day. A friend of mine wrote to me about her disappointment in herself to do all the things she’d hoped to do, and I saw myself in her: I am never all that I hope to be. I constantly fail, like everyone else. So what can we do about it? I’ll share some of the strategies I’ve been using lately to deal with this, and

India roars back to Davos to seek overseas investment

DAVOS, SWITZERLAND | BY SUJATA RAO Indian Finance Minister Jaitley at Davos. Colourful lions adorn a salon on the main street of Davos, inviting visiting business leaders to "Make in India". Optimism about the world's fastest growing economy contrasts with the economic gloom facing other emerging markets and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mantra encapsulates a renewed confidence among Indian business and political leaders at the 2016 World Economic Forum. This year's Davos push, led by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, has stirred memories of the ill-fated and extravagant 2006 "India Everywhere" marketing campaign that had aimed to showcase a resurgent India as a destination for foreign investment to rival China.
